Insect and Spider Bites... Insect
and Spider bites often cause minor swelling , redness pain and itching. These
mild reactions are common and may last from a few hours to a few days. Some
people have more severe reactions to bites or stings. Problems that are
more serious and need immediate medical attention include:
- A severe allergic reaction with signs and symptoms that may
include shock; swelling of the lips, tongue, ears, eyelids, hands and
feet; coughing wheezing, difficulty breathing or a feeling of fullness
or tightness in the mouth or throat; nausea, diarrhea and stomach
cramps; hives and reddening of the skin; and lightheadedness and
confusion.
- A toxic allergic reaction is different that an allergic reaction.
The venom of a few insects and spiders can cause a poisonous reaction
with only one bite or sting. Symptoms vary, depending on the insect or
spider, Look for uncontrollable jerking movements; drowsiness; fainting;
muscle spasms; headache; fever; rapid swelling; vomiting or diarrhea.
Seek medical help immediately.
